PoDFA Challenge

PoDFA samples contain several points of interest which have conflicting characteristics in terms of selecting a suitable mehanical preparation method. A very soft aluminum area with an interface to a very hard and porous ceramic area, also containing soft metal areas. The final analysis demands good planeness at the interface and absence of artifacts like embedded abrasives in the soft aluminum phases.

Solution:

A short five-step method taking only 15 minutes results in a plane sample revealing all points of interest in the filter. Special focus has been the planeness of the sample using rigid disks to avoid relief between the soft and hard phases in the sample.
